World-renowned art and industry come together at Dreispitz near Basel. Philipp Brogli leads an urban art tour through the area.
For Philipp Brogli, the city is an “open-air gallery,” an “urban public museum” where various national and international artists are “exhibited.” These are renowned names that are well known in urban art.
“Our aim is to bring this international aspect and quality to Basel and the Dreispitz area. People here in the region should find out who is behind the works,” says Brogli. “We have artists who have achieved something, who are well-known and who have found their own style.” On the approximately one-and-a-half-hour tour of the Dreispitz site, Brogli shows hidden and unknown works, or those that many may already be familiar with, but not the history of their creation or the artists behind them.
In addition to the artworks, the Urban Art Tour aims to showcase the history and transformation of the Dreispitz site, what it used to be and where it is headed. Many people are unaware of what used to be and still is here on the site, for example the history of the duty-free warehouse, the numerous studios and art institutions, the “Birtel Manufaktur” brewery, the “Fahrbar” mobile café, the young writers' collective ‘Wortstellwerk’ and the material recycling company “OFFCUTT.”
